Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Silesia (in 2000) and completed her studies in Healthcare Management and Administration at the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology (in 2004). She has been professionally associated with the Department of Internal Medicine, Diabetology and Nephrology of the Medical University of Silesia in Zabrze since 2001, and the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic since 2012. She has been working at the Medical University of Silesia since 2014. In 2005, she successfully defended her PhD dissertation investigating the relationship between a coding polymorphism in the insulin receptor substrate-1 gene (IRS - 1) and the birth weight of full-term infants, for which she was awarded an honourable mention.
Specialist in internal medicine – since 2008, and in diabetology – since 2010. Edyta Cichocka is currently completing her specialist medical training in endocrinology (2015). She has authored or co-authored 25 publications about diabetology, and 1 diabetology textbook. Her main areas of research include type 1 diabetes, insulin pump therapy, and gestational diabetes. Member of the Polish Society of Internal Medicine TIP, Polish Diabetes Association PTD, the European Association for the Study of Diabetes EASD, and the Polish Society of Endocrinology PTE. A wife and mother of two: 10-year old Maciej and 6-year old Marta.
