Prof. Tadeusz W. Łapiński, MD, Ph.D

Professor Tadeusz Wojciech Łapiński, MD, PhD, was born in Białystok, where he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Białystok in 1984. In the same year he started work in the Regional Sanitary and Epidemiological Department in Białystok, and a year later in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Hepatology of the Medical University, where he still works. In 1988, he obtained the specialization in internal medicine, in 1991 the specialization in infectious diseases, and in 1995 the specialization in maritime and tropical medicine. In 1989, he defended his doctoral dissertation entitled "Free fatty acids in plasma and serum triglycerides in encephalopathy and hepatic coma" and in 2007 he received his post-doctoral degree for his dissertation "Research on indicators of programmed cell death in viral infections HBV, HCV and HIV". On 25 June 2014 the President of the Republic of Poland awarded him the title of a full professor of medical sciences.
Professor Tadeusz Łapiński, MD, PhD, repeatedly lectured on Polish and international forum (Italy, Spain, Kazakhstan, Ukraine). He is a member of the Polish Society of Epidemiologists and Infectious Diseases Physicians (since 2012 the Vice-President of the Division in Białystok), the Hepatology Section of the Polish Society of Epidemiologists and Infectious Diseases Physicians, Polish Immunological Society, Polish Hepatology Society.
He conducts research on epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of infections with HBV, HDV, HCV and HIV. His scientific interests include:
Evaluation of non-specific and specific immune response in chronic viral hepatitis.
The role of the processes of programmed cell death in viral infections. Opportunistic infections among immunocompromised patients.
The influence of predictive factors on the course of the infection and the effectiveness of treatment of patients with chronic viral hepatitis.
He received four times the Award of the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, fourteen times individual and team awards of the Rector of the Medical University in Białystok for scientific achievements.
