Professor Jolanta Rabe-Jabłońska was born in Pabianice on 24 December 1950, and died in Łódź on 19 May 2014. She was a prominent doctor, lecturer, and scientist. A long-standing Head of the 1st Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Mood and Psychotic Disorders of the Medical University of Łódź. Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Regional Consultant in Psychiatry, Regional Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, editor-in-chief of "Psychiatria and Psychologia Kliniczna", journal on psychiatry and clinical psychology, and a member of scientific councils of a number of other medical journals. Author and editor of numerous publications, textbook chapters and monographs in the field of psychiatry.
Within the last 20 years, Professor Jolanta Rabe-Jabłońska was one of the key figures of the Polish psychiatry. She was the co-author of the current standards of treatment of mental disorders in Poland. She has built a team of researchers who continue to explore various aspects of diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. Professor Jolanta Rabe-Jabłońska also organised psychiatric care for adolescents in the Łódź region: one of few in-patient centres for adolescents with secondary school education, day care department, hostel, psychological centre for adolescents, and therapy & consultation centre. She was an experienced clinician deeply dedicated to her patients. Supervisor of 28 PhD dissertations and a number of post-doctoral dissertations.
She will be remembered as an outstanding lecturer. Her professional and inspirational lectures were the highlights of every conference she attended.
