Prof. Jacek Szepietowski, MD, Ph.D

Professor Jacek Szepietowski, MD, PhD was born in 1966 in Wrocław. After completing his studies (diploma of medical doctor with distinction) in 1991 he started work at the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Alergology of the Medical University of Wrocław, and held the following positions: teaching assistant, assistant professor, associate professor and full professor. In 1994 he obtained the first-degree specialization and in 1997 the second-degree specialization with distinction in dermatology and venereology. In 1996 he was awarded the title of the doctor of medical sciences, in 1999 the post-doctoral degree and in 2004 he received the full professorship nomination.
Positions held: Head of the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Alergology of the Medical University of Wrocław, Vice-Rector for Development of the Medical University of Wrocław, co-organizer and the first Rector of the University of Medical Sciences in Legnica (2004–2005), in 2007–2011 the Director of the Ludwik Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy  of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wrocław and the Head of the Department of Medical Immunology of this Institute, a member of the Medical Team of the State Accreditation Committee (2008–2011).
Membership in scientific societies: the President of the Polish Dermatological Society, President of the International Forum for the Study of Itch, member of the board: International Society of Dermatology (Vice-President in 2009-2013), European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, European Society for Dermatology and Psychiatry, European Society for Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus and Euro-Asian Association of Dermatovenereologists. Until 2008 a member of the board of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology. In 2004 he was the Vice-President of the 10th Congress of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (Wrocław), in 2007 the President of the 12th Congress of the European Society for Dermatology and Psychiatry (Wrocław), and in 2013 the President of the 10th Spring Symposium of European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (Kraków). Member of the Committee of Immunology and Etiology of Human Infections, Polish Academy of Sciences (2008–2011). Honorary member: Research Xi Scientific Society (USA), Italian Society of Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Georgian Association of Dermatovenereologists, Serbian Associaton of Dermatologists and Venereologists, Belarusian Society of Dermatovenereologists and Cosmetologists, Slovak Society of Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dermatology i Cosmetic Dermatology Society of India.
Academic training: Utrecht (1993), Edinburgh (1996 and 1998), Nagoya (2000).
Scientific output: over 500 scientific publications, author and/or editor of 12 books, over 70 chapters in national and foreign books and over 400 congress reports. Total Impact Factor (IF) for full text publications – 321,496, number of points from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education – 4,865, number of citations according to the Web of Science database (without self-citations) – 1,858, index "h" – 24. Supervisor of 22 doctoral dissertations, supervisor of 4 post-doctoral dissertations. He reviewed 47 doctoral dissertations, also outside Poland (Stockholm, Moscow, Kaunas), 17 post-doctoral dissertations, 11 applications for professorship and one for professor position in Israel. Main areas of research: dermal pruritus, psychodermatology, immunodermatology of chronic inflammation, and dermatological mycology. Distinctions: Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, Silver Cross of Merit, Medal of the National Education Commission and badge of honour for "Contributions to Tourism".
